More Poems!

Life of me

I swing silently on my porch swing
The air is a moist warm calm
If only I could make a guitar twing
And sing with the wisdom of a psalm
Then fingers could sing the song on my mind
To the rhythm of the swing’s sweet rock
I’d sing anything to help me unwind
The sun could be my clock
However, the strings are out of tune
And the sun doesn’t set till ten
So instead I’ll get up and go to my room
And attempt to clean it again.

Love Fogs the Mind

Love fogs the mind
As a dirty river displays its silt in the delta
The thin layers slowly rest on the earth
Seeping into the grooves and crannies
Until it is coated
Like a strawberry dipped in chocolate
Deliciously irresistible
Yet too much would take away the flavor

Life Choices

For a job what do you do?
I play the monkey at the local zoo.
What college do you plan to attend?
College? Oh. You mean ‘where are my friends?’
What profession do you plan to pursue?
The oldest profession of course. And you?

dOt

I am the speck upon your wall
Am I a bug? No not at all
A tiny black against the white
I do not move, but though I might
Have crawled around in a past life
Of a bug before the might
Of the thumb that came that night
It squashed me after I’d crawled ‘round
On the wall and on the ground
To finally stop here where I’m found
By larger eye so huge and round
A ball with black against the white
In the small and dimming light
It moves and speculates its sight
Of the speck upon the wall
‘It is a bug, after all.’
College Applications

You’ve been here before
You’ve made it through
I need you to guide me
To tell me what to do

There isn’t a sense of determination in your eyes
All they show is worry free
And that’s hard to disguise

This stuff is important
I’m trying to understand
All this pressure and this stress
Is more than I can stand.

‘What will you be when you grow up?’
How can anyone know?
Are you meant for greatness,
or just an average Joe?

Chance Encounter

When someone stops to look at you
And you start looking back
You crack a smile, they do too,
What comes after that?
One would thing a nice 'Hello'
Would break the awkward calm
You start to speak and then oh no
Your phone shakes in your palm
Answer it or speak the word?
Darn the gazing’s stopped.
Soon a shy 'Hello' is heard
The magic feeling flopped
You walk away from said stranger
In the strangest mood
Your heart has lifted and yet graver
Having been removed
From the situation mentioned
A few lines before
Entering your mind, the question
Could there have been more?

When You’re Sad

Like a parasite
I cling to your emotions
I feed off your negative energy
Then regurgitate it as happy solutions

When you’re happy
I can’t stand it
I can’t be with you
It’s a good thing this rarely happens

When you’re sad
I can help you
I make you feel better
But only so I can feel better about myself

Do you need a hug?
Give me a call
Something exciting?
Talk to a wall
It should care more than I ever could

I love you
But only when you’re sad

Failed Poetry

Is this poetry?
I’m confused
Whether this is poetry
Or not

I think I just like the
Awkward
Pauses
When it’s read

If not then it still gets my point across
